The Jazz Arts Academy is a year round comprehensive jazz studies program presented by Jazz Arts Project, Inc. in association with the Count Basie Theatre Performing Arts Academy. This program offers expert musical mentoring with performance ensembles, improvisation training, general musicianship, coaching, special workshops, and jam sessions in addition to jazz repertory and discussions about the history of jazz. The program provides middle school and high school aged students with a ‘centralized jazz scene,’ a place where they can supplement their school music program, meet new players from the entire region and gain valuable skills and experience in a safe, fun and professional atmosphere.
Learn from an all-star, all-pro faculty which includes noted jazz recording artists who are dedicated to comprehensive jazz education. Receive comprehensive training in improvisation, music theory, jazz history, and on your instrument. The program features group lessons, individual coaching, and listening sessions, as well as master classes with visiting artists. Have fun learning to improvise, improving on your instrument, and meeting other young musicians!
