The Jazz Arts Academy is a year round comprehensive jazz studies program presented by Jazz Arts Project, Inc. in association with the Count Basie Center for the Arts. This program offers expert musical mentoring with performance ensembles, improvisation, general musicianship, coaching, special workshops, and jam sessions in addition to jazz repertory and discussions about the history of jazz. The program provides middle school and high school aged students with a ‘centralized jazz scene,’ a place where they can supplement their school music program, meet new players from the entire region and gain valuable skills and experience in a safe, fun and professional atmosphere.
Learn from an all-star, all-pro faculty. Receive comprehensive training in improvisation, music theory, jazz history, and on your instrument. The program features group lessons, individual coaching, and listening sessions, as well as masterclasses with visiting artists. Have fun learning to improvise, improving on your instrument, and meeting other young musicians!
*Tuition includes course materials, study guides & sheet music.
During the year, student ensembles perform at special showcase concerts plus additional community events and performance opportunities whenever possible.
The Summer Camp session includes performances at Red Bank’s Jazz In The Park Series & two nights at Summer Jazz Café at Two River Theater.
