Journey into the world of Latin jazz, the Blues, and the legacy of trumpet legend Roy Hargrove in a series of free “Talking Jazz” lectures & discussions.
Red Bank, New Jersey – Jazz Arts Project, in partnership with the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, is hosting a series of free “Talkin’ Jazz” lectures on October 12, October 29, and November 12, 2024. These discussions explore a range of topics about the history, importance, influence, and cultural significance of Jazz with expert musicians, educators, and community icons. Presentations will be live at the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center at 94 Drs. James Parker Boulevard in Red Bank, New Jersey at 7:00 pm EST. Seating is limited and registration is required.

The Singer’s Art with Lezlie Harrison
Lezlie Harrison, jazz and blues vocalist extraordinaire and WBGO Jazz Radio curator, discusses “The Singers’ Art,” which explores emotion, despair, sadness and joy through the natural human voice. Especially in jazz, the singer is called upon to tell the profound story of being human.

Roy Hargrove Legacy
with Jason Marshall and Aida Brandes-Hargrove
Explore how the late great trumpeter Roy Hargrove helped shape the modern musical landscape of jazz, Afro-Cuban, R & B, and hip-hop, with Aida Brandes-Hargrove (Roy Hargrove Big Band Director) and Saxophonist Jason Marshall (Roy Hargrove Big Band) Lecture, performances.
“Laced within Jazz, Blues and Gospel Music are unique American art forms that have had a profound impact on society and social change,” says Joe Muccioli, Jazz Arts Project Founder and Artistic Director. “We’re thrilled to join with the T. Thomas Fortune Culture Center. Fortune was a significant stalwart for social justice who also witnessed the very creation and development of early jazz.”
